Swiftfox
From Site5Wiki
Swiftfox is an open source build of Mozilla's Firefox browser that is optimized for speed. Versions are available for both AMD and Intel processors. Swiftfox is built from the trunk from which Firefox version 3 will be born. (For a more technical explanation of Firefox's trunks and branches, please see Swiftfox's official site: getswiftfox.com.)
The current version of Swiftfox, because it comes from the same development trunk, can use all of the extensions and themes that the current version of Firefox is able to use.
[edit] How to install
Three methods:
1. Visit the releases page and click on the link corresponding to your computer's processor.
2. Download the build specific to your processor, and install according to your OS.
or, in a Linux/Unix/X11 environment, you may:
1. Use a highly-tuned bash script, created by two skilled writers of the Ubuntu: Chronicles wiki -- direct install link: right-click, and save as installswiftfox.sh.
2. Open a
terminal, and enter the following commands (assuming, of course, that the script was downloaded to your desktop--if not, alter the first cd command to reflect the script's location on your hard drive:
cd Desktop
chmod +x installswiftfox.sh
./installswiftfox.sh
The script reads your processor, and does all the "hard work" as such for you. Once the installation is complete, you can delete the bash script.
Note: This second method is the method I used, and the installation was clean and extremely fast. Swiftfox then became my preferred browser immediately. —Carla Hufstedler 17:10, 31 January 2007 (EST)
or:
You may add its Debian repository to your list of allowed repositories:
1. Add deb http://getswiftfox.com/builds/debian unstable non-free to your allowed repository list either via a package manager, or via the
command line:
(The following examples assume your desktop manager is either Gnome or [1]. For "gedit" or "kate", substitute your text editor of choice.)
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
kdesu /etc/apt/sourceslist
2. This command will open your repository list with editing permissions, so you simply add the line deb http://getswiftfox.com/builds/debian unstable non-free and save the document.
