What the heck is a "wiki manual"?
We truly believe that when our customers have questions, they would rather find the answer on their own. For that reason, we established the Site5 Customer Manual. The manual is designed to describe all aspects of Site5's services as clearly and in as much detail as possible.
We've chosen to set up the manual as a wiki (click here if you're unfamiliar with wikis). The reason? We want this manual to be a collaborative effort--one supported by both the Site5 Team and our customers. And although the Site5 Team is "officially" responsible for maintaining this resource, we're also counting on lots of input from you!
Clients Helping Clients
This service manual is for all Site5 clients regardless of what services you have with us. Our employees are working very hard to fill in the holes. If you happen to stumble across something you have experience with or you find a section/article that's missing--add it! Don't worry about getting anything wrong. We have a team of editors who comb over things and correct any misspellings, formatting and the like.
Adding/Modifying Wiki Content
This page provides tips, suggestions, and external tools to assist you in editing the wiki.
How Can I Help?
This is a community project. The Site5 team will, of course, continue to contribute heavily to the manual (it's now an official part of our jobs). We also have two official editors: Carla and Taber. They're both excellent writers and have a solid understanding of our services. Their job is to make sure everything has a consistent tone and feel, as well as to determine the best way to present and organize the information.
That being said, we would love your help! This is a document meant to help Site5 customers--both beginner and expert--get the most out of our services. If you have ever had a question or worked through a problem, chances are, with the number of people we host, at least one, if not many other customers, would benefit from your wisdom.
Here are just a few ideas for how customers can help expand this resource:
- Transfer existing how-to articles (along with helpful tips added by other users) and make use of wiki formatting. (note: if you are the author of a how-to article and for some reason don't want your article transcribed to the manual, simply reply to your article stating such)
- Fill in "placeholder" or sparse sections with content.
- Enhance existing sections by adding additional information, detailed steps, related screenshots or even videos.
- Transfer helpful articles from our existing FAQ/Knowledgebase to the wiki.
- Help reorganize or reword confusing or out of place or confusing information.
- Edit, edit, edit! Fix typos, grammar errors, edit sentences/paragraphs so they flow better and are more concise and easy to follow. You may not have specific information to contribute, but we would absolutely love help improving the content that's already there!
These are just a few of the ways in which you can help to make this the most impressive and helpful resource in the hosting world. We are blessed with a very talented and knowledgeable community. We want to take advantage of that fact to help customers get the answers they need on their own. I know that I, personally, would prefer to find information on my own if at all possible--it's faster and less of a hassle than contacting support (although that's not to say that Site5's support team is anything less than stellar ). And, as an added bonus, this manual will help to reduce the number of tickets we receive, resulting in better response times across the board.
Still a little lost?
Are you trying to find out how to use your service and you're a little confused by this wiki? No problem, wikis are new and take a little time to figure out. Think of this wiki as Site5's own internet. Everything in this wiki is linked in some manner. You can find your way by 'surfing' around (clicking from link to link), maybe give the search box a try if you're looking for something specific. And if you aren't sure of what you're looking for, try the Table of Contents of our Customer Manual.
