POP3
From Site5Wiki
POP3 stands for "Post Office Protocol v.3":
A standard interface between an e-mail client program and the mail server, defined by IETF RFC 1939. POP3 and IMAP are the two common mailbox access protocols used for Internet e-mail. POP3 provides a message store that holds incoming e-mail until users log on and download it.
POP3 is a simple system with limited selectivity. All pending messages and attachments are downloaded when users check their mail.
POP vs. IMAP = email retrieval from a remote server vs. email access to email on a remote server
