The measurements important to a webmaster are those for data storage space, and for bandwidth allotment. Both needs-space and time, so to speak-are measured using the same units:

| Gigabyte | 1,024 megabytes; one billion bytes | GB, Gbyte, G-byte |
| Megabyte | one million bytes | MB, Mbyte, M-byte |
| Kilobyte | 1,000 bytes | KB, Kbyte, K-byte |
| Byte | eight binary digits (bits) | BinarY TablE |
