Site5Wiki:Current events
From Site5Wiki
The release of the Site5 wiki/manual is a momentous event. Read the official announcements below:
And in other news...
March 16, 2007: The word "wiki" has been officially added into the Oxford English dictionary. (Reuters story)
-
May 8, 2007: Dynamic and localized date formatting has been implemented. Set your user preferences accordingly, and, as we encode all already-existing, and new, dates in the wiki with the <date></date>enclosure code, our formatting of the date will be automagically translated into your preferred formatting.
Please, if you edit an article, or begin a new one, and a date is involved in your notation, add the <date></date> code. Thank you!
Remember, the cache needs to be purged in order for you to view any such changes. We have a MediaWiki extension installed that assists with reading and editing by managing and clearing Mediawiki's Squid-based cache. Simply click the "purge" tab in the upper navigational tabs, as seen in this screenshot, whenever necessary.

Many additions made to the internal gears and workings (aka, MediaWiki's LocalSettings) that will hopefully make using the wiki safer and faster. Enjoy. :) Carla 16:49, 7 June 2007 (EDT)
- MediaWiki was updated to version 1.10.1 (release notes). Carla 12:35, 20 July 2007 (EDT)

To hopefully aid reading and navigation of the wiki, the tone of the backgrounds of the <pre> attention-getting blocks and the category listings in the footer were enhanced, and their font-size was changed to "larger" in main[[.css|.css]]. Hope this helps. Carla 11:46, 25 July 2007 (EDT)

See those links at the top of this page, with the blue background? They're true breadcrumbs—dynamically showing you how you surfed through our wiki to any particular page. Enjoy. Carla 18:30, 26 July 2007 (EDT)
-
The
public PGP key for this wiki's automated email address has been added for your reference and security, and is being uploaded to PGP servers as well. Carla 12:22, 27 July 2007 (EDT)
-
Email obfuscation has been added to all site5.com email addresses in this wiki (process continuing). What this means is that any contact email link is actually a image of the email address in question, written in red. To use the mailto:links as always, please simply click the envelope icon (
) that precedes the address' image. Carla 15:45, 27 July 2007 (EDT)
-
The Software versions' list has been upgraded to not only include many
Unix programs and libraries available to our customers, but I've added, where applicable, server paths, locations, and preference files' locations as well. (work continuing, of course) Carla 14:09, 28 July 2007 (EDT)
-
If you do not have a valid email address associated with your user name, your account will be purged September 2, 2007, since a valid email address is required, for security reasons, to have editing privileges.

- Autolinking, the Holy Grail of wikiness, has been implemented, thanks to the extension. It was originally written by Sanjeev; I chose the tweaked version by Samuel Gelineau, because it requires no extra word list/glossary. Just automagic autolinking. Nirvana. --Carla 11:38, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
- Upgrade to MediaWiki v.1.11.0 RC1: Release notes and changes --Carla 18:16, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
Have a handheld device? A new iPhone, perhaps? The handheld stylesheet for this wiki is located at http://wiki.site5.com/skins/monobook/handheld.css, and it's strictly validated. Enjoy. :) Carla 10:28, 18 September 2007 (EDT)
